conclude  “结论”、“断定”，语气肯定。其名词是 conclusion。

 

    1) After waiting for an hour we concluded that she wasn’t come.   等了一小时后,我们断定她不

       会来了。

    2）It would be a mistake to conclude that unselfish concern has disappeared.     断定说无私的

       关怀已经不复存在，那就错了。

    3) What can you conclude from these observations?    你从这些观察中能得出什么结论?

    4) According to the present invistigation, we cannot conclude that he is guilty of the crime.

       根据目前的调查,我们不能断定他是犯了罪 （我们不能作出他犯罪的结论）。

    5) We have come to the conclusion that it is unwise to take further actions against the

       incident.    我们得出结论，对这一事件采取进一步行动是不明智的。

 

judge “判断”，指经过仔细审核、考察之后做出的判断。其名词是 judgment。

 

    1) We cannot judge the whole situation till we examine all the obtained information    

       carefully.     在我们审度所有得到的信息之前，我们无法判断整个局势。

    2）According to these proofs, we cannot judge whether he is guilty of the crime.

       根据这些证据，我们还无法判断（断定）他犯罪。

    3）It is not trelaible to judge a person only by his appearance.     兴凭外表判断一个人是不

       可靠的。

    4) If a man is easily taken in by emotional traps, he will certainly not be able to make

       sensible judgment.     如果一个人很容易被情感陷阱欺骗，他肯定不能做出明智的判断。

 

summarize  “总结”、“归纳”，指经过分析后作出归纳总结。其名词是 summary。

 

    1）Philosophy is the scientific knowledge that summarizes the nature and society.

       哲学是归纳总结自然与社会的科学知识。

    2) The main aims of this course are to cultivate students' ability to read fast and

      summarize what they have read.    本课程的主要目的是培养学生快速阅读和归纳阅读内容的能

       力。

    3) We need to review and summarize of related literatures both at home and abroad before we

        start the program.     在我们开始该项目之前，我们需要先对国内外相关文献进行归纳和评论。  

 

sum up    “总结”、“归纳”， 相当于 summarize， 多用于口语。

    

    1) Will you please sum up the main ideas of this article?    请把这篇文章的大意归纳一下?

    2）I consider it worthwhile trying to sum up our experience in learning.    我认为我们有必要

       总结一下我们学习英语的经验。

 

generalize  “判断”、“概括”，“归纳”，指对……进行概括，从……笼统地概括出一般的或的规律。

                或作一般性的结论。

 

    1) You cannot generalize about the effect of the drug from one or two cases.   你不能从一两个

       病例来判断药物的效果。

    2) I have analyzed and generalized the relevant domestic and international literatures in

       recent years.   我分析和总结了最近年国内外的文献。

    3) It is difficult to generalize about job trends withouty a thorough investigation into the

       market.    没有对市场作彻底调查要归纳出就业趋势并非易事
